Killington Green Season

Mountain biking. Long Trail. And a cabin waiting.

Killington's green season is a different animal. Lift-served mountain biking at the Killington Bike Park. The Long Trail and Appalachian Trail meeting minutes from the lodge. And after a long day on the trails, a fenced yard for the dog and a grand stone fireplace for you. Sleeps eight.

Why the Lodge for Green Season

A base camp built for dirty gear

3 min

Killington Bike Park

One of the top lift-served downhill bike parks in the East. 30+ trails, every skill level. K-1 and Ramshead both run the lifts. Three-minute drive from Kilbourne — leave after breakfast, first run by 10.

Minutes

Long Trail & AT access

The Long Trail (Vermont's oldest long-distance hiking trail) and the Appalachian Trail both cross the Killington area. Multiple trailheads within 15 minutes of the lodge. Section-hike, day-hike, or just leg-burning summit hikes.

Gear

Storage for the dirty stuff

A mud room at the entry. A basement with room for bikes. Hose out back for dirty tires. No more ruining the trunk of the rental car with chain grease.

Fenced

Yard for the trail dog

Fully fenced backyard means your dog can decompress off-leash after a trail run. Trail dogs live for this. Waste bags stocked at the back door.

Fireplace

Post-ride apres at home

The grand stone fireplace is an underrated green-season feature. Summer nights in Killington run cool at 1,500 ft elevation. Firewood provided. Kitchen for a proper post-ride dinner.

Softer

Green-season rates

Green-season nightly rates are meaningfully softer than ski season. A long mountain-biking weekend costs a fraction of the same weekend in January. The mountain is the same mountain — often better weather, always fewer people.

Planning Notes

Seasons, trails, timing

When does Killington Bike Park run?

Killington's bike park typically operates from late May through mid-October, weather and trail conditions permitting. Check killington.com/things-to-do/biking for current year's season dates and lift schedule.

When's best for hiking?

Late May through late October covers the core hiking window. July and August have the most stable weather; September is the magic month — thinning crowds, early foliage at elevation, crisp mornings. If you're sectioning the Long Trail or AT, aim for a weather window between summer storms and autumn cold.

Which trails should we hit first?

For downhill MTB: Killington Bike Park. For XC MTB: the Sherburne Trails network just down the road. For hiking: the AT crossing at VT-4 for a Pico Peak out-and-back, or the Long Trail up Killington Peak for the biggest views. Your guide notes in the lodge cover all of this in detail.

Can dogs come on the trails?

Yes — most Long Trail and AT sections are dog-friendly on-leash. Killington Bike Park doesn't allow dogs on the lifts, so plan accordingly. Dogs are welcome back at the lodge in the fenced yard while you ride.
